1860's

In the 1860’s, the skirts became even larger. The patterned fabrics were traded in for silks in solid colors. The sleeves became narrower and the waistlines rose a bit.

Day Dress

For day dresses, they once again wore chemisettes and had high necklines with long sleeves.

Evening Dress

In contrast, evening dresses had low necklines, short sleeves, and gloves (that went just past the wrist). To create less bulk, the skirts were made of shaped panels.
